Sonidos de una guerra indeterminada, una compañía de jóvenes actores refugiados en una iglesia en ruinas, una explosión cercana y amenazante que enfrenta a los miembros de la compañía.
De repente un curioso e inquietante individuo irrumpe en el lugar anunciando la llegada de alguien especial, distinto, un ser poderoso que aparece como si de un hechizo se tratase, y que es capaz de cambiar la realidad, enseñándonos quiénes somos a través de historias, parábolas y pequeños entremeses teatrales.
¿Son reales estos personajes? ¿Son actores dentro de una obra interpretada por actores? ¿Y estos dos personajes que no parecen ser parte del grupo y representan papeles antagónicos, son quiénes dicen ser? ¿Se han colado en el espacio escénico? ¿Quién les ha dejado entrar?
Teatro dentro del teatro. Todos cumpliendo lo encomendado para que los mensajes trasciendan: los actores para llegar a la catarsis de emociones de las que se nutre al público desde la escena; los personajes cumpliendo con su destino para que el mensaje de amor que transportan viaje a través de los siglos.
A veces todo se entremezcla y no sabemos lo que es verdad teatral, o lo que es verdad espiritual. Un mensaje con más de 2000 años de historia, contado de otra forma. Una nueva pasión.
El teatro comenzó como un acto semi-religioso. Todavía conserva ese carácter ritual, esa común unión entre espectadores y actores bajo un mismo techo, en un espacio de magia compartida que hoy reclama ser un refugio para la verdad. Un lugar pequeño donde pueden ocurrir cosas muy grandes.
Talía, la diosa del teatro ha de ser modesta y dejar que ese espacio donde ella gobierna sea ocupado hoy por un Dios que nos habla de amor, de perdón, de caridad, de humildad.
Vivimos en tiempos violentos, confusos.
Hoy el escenario nos invita a rememorar una lección que durante más de dos milenios no terminamos de aprender.
El espectáculo que van a presenciar es nuestro grano de arena para animarles a dinamitar la utopía y pasar a construir la ciudad soñada, no rindiéndose ante la idea de crear un mundo mejor.
Gracias por venir al teatro, gracias por participar y envolverse en la “liturgia teatral” que les proponemos.
Siempre esperando que disfruten, se diviertan, se emocionen y reflexionen.

Director's Note
I was born in Havana. Despite having had a Spanish passport since my birth, I arrived in Spain in 1973, after having lived in different countries. Was 14 years old.
If belonging to a group is important for a teenager, for one who changes country and, therefore, schoolyard with some regularity, it is even more so.
Thus, arriving in Spain brought with it the possibility of putting down roots and making new friends.
Among my first memories from then is curiously Godspell. My sister Rita had just passed the audition to join the first company that would premiere the musical in Spain in 1974.
Some time later, Godspell would cross my path again, as it was the play chosen by my neighborhood friends and I to perform and raise funds for a school.
We were moved by the music, the stage. My friend Antonio Vega was among them, of course, in charge of the music.
Adolescence, friends who feel like brothers, brothers who feel like friends, the first stolen kisses, and not so stolen. Music, theater, games, and that feeling of being invincible, that everything is possible if we are moved by Love and Justice.
Cut, almost 50 years later, in the dressing room after an endearing recording and with the adrenaline of having sung together, Antonio Banderas tells me about the next musical that he would like to premiere.
This is Godspell. Once again, the friendship and passion that unites us, for music and the privileged craft of telling stories, brings me back to Godspell. Maybe it's not just a coincidence anymore.
Maturity, friends that are no longer here, family that is growing. And the music, the theater, the game continues and, although I have already learned that I am vulnerable, I continue to feel the strength of Love and Justice.
Godspell is about that: about Love, about pursuing justice, about accepting the rules of the game without giving in to what hurts us. And, above all, to remember, if we have forgotten it, that life is a path that we need to travel hand in hand with each other.
Godspell is about building a beautiful city where we all have our place.
Antonio Banderas and I have the challenge of revisiting the first montage by John-Michael Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz, respecting its freshness, but with the perspective of this 21st century. With the help of the gospels of Saint Matthew we will establish the parallelism of the passion of Jesus with the passions of so many who suffer in our days. To do this, we will introduce elements of vaudeville, magic and new musical arrangements, in addition to giving the characters more terrain and the possibility of being multifaceted.
We hope to build a new passion!

Nací en La Habana. Pese a tener pasaporte español desde mi nacimiento, llegué a España en 1973, después de haber vivido en diferentes países. Tenía 14 años.
Si para un adolescente es importante la pertenencia al grupo, para uno que cambia con cierta regularidad de país y, por tanto, de patio de colegio, lo es aún más.
Así pues, la llegada a España trajo consigo la posibilidad de echar raíces y de hacer nuevos amigos.
Entre mis primeros recuerdos de entonces está curiosamente Godspell. Mi hermana Rita acababa de pasar la audición para incorporarse a la primera compañía que estrenaría el musical en España en 1974.
Un tiempo después, Godspell volvería a cruzarse en mi camino, al ser la obra elegida por mis amigos del barrio y yo para interpretarla y recaudar fondos para un colegio.
Nos movía la música, el escenario. Mi amigo Antonio Vega estaba entre ellos, por supuesto, a cargo de la música.
